“Islamophobia” is the long awaited book by Chris Allen that attempts to understand and contextualise one of the most dangerous prejudices in today’s world.
This authoritative text is published by Ashgate at £16.99 (paperback) and £55.00 (hardback). To purchase at a significantly discounted price (including free p&p) vitis www.islamophobiabook.com.
What the publishers say about the book:
Despite numerous sources suggesting that Islamophobia is becoming both increasingly prevalent and societally acceptable in the contemporary world, there remains a lack of textual sources that consider either the phenomenon itself, or its manifestations and consequences. There is no authoritative text that attempts to understand or contextualise what might be seen to be one of the most dangerous prejudices in the contemporary climate.
Chris Allen begins by looking at ways of defining and understanding Islamophobia. He traces its historical evolution to the present day, considering the impact of recent events and their aftermath especially in the wake of the events of September 11, before trying to understand and comprehend a wider conception of the phenomenon. A series of investigations thematically consider the role of the media, the contemporary positioning of Muslims throughout the world, and whether Islamophobia can be seen to be a continuum of historical anti-Muslimism or anti-Islamism, or whether Islamophobia is an entirely modern concept. The issue of Islamophobia is considered from the perspective of the local, regional, and global. The incidence of Islamophobia, and the magnitude of the phenomenon and its consequences, is one that warrants a greater investigation in the world today.
This book is both academically and socially relevant and necessary.

We are honoured to present you an electronic publication of a catalogue of Islamic manuscripts in Belgrade.
It has been a result of five years researching, identification and cataloguing more than 600 works written in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish and Persian.
A great amount of various relevant informations has been incorporated within this catalogue still unknown to scholars, experts and other individuals worldwide. It has been accomplished in English with ZDMG transliteration of Islamic terms and names.
More than 400 images of various manuscripts facilitate a better insight of all manuscripts in the collection.
The catalogue has been created as an electronic book, very easy to manage, to pass from one page to another and all connected with indexes of places of accomplishment, chronology, authors and copyists, and subjects according to which it is divided.
Great attention has been dedicated to graphic design, as well, with an intention that a reader gain richer experience of the manuscripts.
Posted by George Brown | November 24, 2010, 6:04 amIslamophobia suggests an irrational fear of Islam and the fact that Muslims are disproportionately incarcerated and follow a supremacist and violent ideology makes this concept seem suspect.
How is it that there can be islamophobia but when non-Muslims are singled out simply because they are kaffir, there isn’t a term to describe it as an irrational fear?
Posted by sagat | September 10, 2011, 6:49 pmSagat, this ideology you refer to of non-Muslims being singled out simply because they are kaffir is not something that the true teachings of Islam promote. In fact Islamic law holds both Muslims and non-Muslims equal and no superiority or privilege is given to the Muslims on any ground.
No-one has any right to force their religious beliefs on others or harm anyone who does not follow their own view point or take the law into their hands to harm someone accused of insulting their religion or beliefs. An entire chapter of the Qur’an which guarantees man’s religious freedom even if it is contrary to Muslim beliefs demonstrates the highest possible form of religious tolerance promoted by Islam. The Qur’an states in the chapter of al-Kafirun (the disbelievers):”
“Say: ‘O disbelievers! I do not worship those that you worship. Nor do you worship Whom I worship. I shall never (ever) worship those that you worship. Nor shall you worship (the Lord) Whom I worship. (So) you have your Din (Religion) and I have my Dīn (Religion)’. (Al.Qur’an Ch 109)
The true message of Islam has been distorted by a minority who wrongly excuse their criminal activity in the name of Islam. It is this that gave rise to Islamophobia.
Posted by muslimah | October 17, 2011, 9:34 pmEvidently you really think all people are stupid. “In fact Islamic law holds both Muslims and non-Muslims equal and no superiority or privilege is given to the Muslims on any ground.” Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
